Urgent Appeal: Support Fire-Affected Families – Your Donations Can Help Rebuild Lives
The informal settlement in Aroma, Tondo, Manila was initially intended as temporary housing. However, over time, families have grown and become accustomed to the area, staying in hopes of easy access to food, relief goods, healthcare, and other forms of temporary support.
Yesterday (14 Sept 2024), a fire broke out in the area at 11 AM and was declared extinguished by 5 AM the following morning. The blaze affected 12 dilapidated buildings, with a report indicating 2006 families were impacted. Casualty details are yet to be confirmed by the local government unit (LGU).
Currently, the affected families are sheltered in the covered courts of Barangay evacuation centers and nearby public schools. San Pablo Apostol Parish scholarship members and volunteers impacted by the fire are being accommodated in a chapel.
Parish volunteers quickly prepared porridge for the affected families. Some infants are in urgent need of diapers and wipes, while scholars require school uniforms, books, and supplies. There is also a need for basic hygiene kits, towels, toothbrushes, and similar essentials, as well as basic kitchen supplies and eating utensils. Additionally, construction materials are needed to help these families return to their area and begin rebuilding their lives.
